Journeys Through Memory: The German Baltic and the Berlin Wall

Paul Scraton is a writer and editor is a writer and editor based in Berlin. Originally from Lancashire, Paul is the editor-in-chief of Elsewhere: A Journal of Place and much of his writing, whether fiction or non-fiction, is concerned with themes of identity, memory and ideas of belonging. Paul will be discussing two of his books: Mauerweg. Stories from the Berlin Wall Trail (co-authored with Paul Sullivan) and Ghosts on the Shore: Travel's Along Germany's Baltic Coast.

Paul will read from both books and discuss the process of writing them, how history shapes our understanding not only of the past but also the present, and specifically how East Germany is remembered and represented today.
