‘One of the most interesting and original young British writers about landscape, culture and people that I know.’
—Robert Macfarlane, author of Underland and Ness
Hear from one of the rising stars of contemporary fiction Adam Scovell as he discusses his fragile and fragmentary second novel How Pale The Winter Has Made Us with Booker-shortlisted author and Foyles favourite, Deborah Levy.
Join Scovell as he discusses the rich effect of geographical place upon the human psyche, and takes us on a psychological tour of Strasbourg— the setting for his novel, to which his protagonist Isabelle finds herself closely entwined following the untimely death of her father. Discussing the legacy of esteemed writers of place, such as WG Sebald, and his collaborations with contemporary writers like Robert Macfarlane, he will also reflect on the appeal and pressures of writing outside of established literary categories.
The event will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
‘Adam Scovell is an archaeologist of the imagination, forever unearthing stories like treasure from the soil, raising ghosts, finding links and shining a flickering light into England’s hidden corners’
—Benjamin Myers, author of The Offing and The Gallows Pole
